iParts for events

Your events can range from a simple single meeting to a large complex conference with numerous functions. Design your events in Events Setup (Desktop) as usual, and use the Events iParts (in the Offerings gallery) to present your events for self-service registration in any iMIS SOA-based website.

■    Event Display – shows event information, manages registration status, and (optionally)  permits users to register others

■    Event Program Display – lists all functions within an event that the registrant can select, with the ability to group functions by day, track, and category, if you define the functions with such:

■    Function Display – shows function information and toggles registration status

Note: Anonymous visitors to your website (both non-members and members who have not signed in yet) may view information about events and functions. However, to register, they must sign in.

Referencing by Key

These iParts reference specific events and functions directly by use of a key. Usually keys are passed via the URL, but you can also specify a key when configuring an iPart. Keys in the URL override those in the configuration.

Keys are required. If a key is missing (that is, a key is neither passed on the URL nor specified in the configuration), then the iPart hides itself from your users.

Note: It takes a while for the indexing service to remove a deleted event. If an iPart cannot hide itself because of this delay, it reports that the event was deleted.

Finding event keys

How you identify the key for a specific item depends on whether it is an event or a function:

■    Event key (Meet_Master.MEETING column): This comes from the Event code defined in Desktop > Events > Define an event.

■    Function key (Product_Function.PRODUCT_CODE column): This comes from the Function Code defined when editing an event function in Desktop > Events > Define an event.
